Have you ever wondered what’s in your oil?
The XRF is a useful tool that not only tells us what’s in your oil, but also how much of that “what” is in the oil… The energy dispersive XRF allows us to run elemental analysis on liquid and solid samples. Once a sample cup is prepared and placed in the carousel, x-rays bombard the oil and excites its atoms. In order to “calm down,” the atoms have to emit energy in the form of fluorescent x-rays which are measured by the instrument’s detector. Since every type of atom is unique, their emitted x-rays are equally as unique and give us a picture of the elements making up the sample!
